A fan writes: I have some general questions concerning the
concert tour. First, why are we not allowed to take our own cameras
in to take pictures? The disposable cameras do not give you good
pictures, especially if you are sitting in lawn seats or very far
away. There were a number of people including the employees of the
Sandstone Amphitheatre who had 35 mm & zoom lens cameras. This was
my daughter's first concert and I think it was unfair to let some
people take their cameras and camcorders in, and I couldn't even
take my own for souvenirs for her. Please let me know why these
rules apply to only some people.
The Rumor Mill responds: Each venue has its own rules and
regulations. The main reasons why there is a restriction on cameras
is copyright law and safety.
It is unlawful to take photos or videotape the show and then sell
the pictures for profit without Christina and the band and dancers'
permission. A performer owns the copyright to their own image and
profits resulting from sale of their image or material. Unfortunately,
some people do that.
Also, the flashes up close can be very dangerous to the performers
as it can distract or 'blind' them momentarily. Momentary blindness
can cause a misstep or fall from the stage resulting in broken bones
or even paralysis. So, what seems like a simple thing to a fan can
pose a very real danger to an artist.
