Richie Cannata has recorded and toured with
Billy Joel's band since 1975 when they first met at Ultrasonic
Recording Studios to listen to tracks for Billy's CD 'Turnstiles.'
It was then that Billy asked
Richie to join the band and a great friendship was born.
Together they went out to Caribou Ranch in Colorado and
at 4 am in the morning, Billy called Richie down to the
studio to record their first song together, 'New York State
of Mind.' Since that record has been released, Richie has
performed the song around the world at every major venue,
and has been heard by millions of fans through radio
and television.
Richie has also been a member of The Beach Boys, playing on several of their recordings, as well as many of their world concert tours.
Richie's talent as a performing artist doesn't end
there - his accomplishments extend behind the scenes. Offstage,
Richie is an established writer, director, and producer.
He is currently working as the musical director for The
Bernie Williams Band.
Until Richie created his own record this year, he had felt the need to revisit 'New York State of Mind' and develop his own version of the classic tune. He was fortunate enough to be able to use the best musicians in the New York area including Bernie Williams as a featured guitar soloist, as well as Julio Fernandez, Chris Clark, Joel Rosenblatt, Gene Perez, Don Harris, and Tom Schuman.
With the help of these extremely talented musicians and this timeless song, Richie is extremely proud of his new version of 'New York State of Mind.'
