Al Gomes and Big Noise assisted in promoting select New England dates for Eddie Money in 2000 and 2001.
Al Gomes: "I met
Eddie at the newly opened Bobby's Banquet Hall in Pawtucket,
RI in 2000 (he signed the CD cover at left). He couldn't
have been sweeter. A working class guy in the body of a
rock star. I told him it was my friend's birthday, and he
took her hand, kissed it, and said, 'Hello beautiful.'
He had an amazing sense
of humor. Two acts opened for him, and during both of their
sets they commented on how great Bobby's looked (it had
formerly been a skating rink since the 1940s), saying 'I
had my first date here' and 'Wow, this place looks great.
I used to skate here all the time.' Eddie was backstage
listening. He finally hit the stage, and after performing
two songs, he stopped and said, 'You know, when I was a
little kid, I used to come here all time with my grandfather
and skate every week. This place looks awesome!' The crowd
went nuts. He just knew exactly how to connect, and he loved
pranking the crowd. :-)
Like Tom Petty's passing,
Eddie's was also especially hard on music fans and well-known
musicians because he shared such a down-to-earth close connection
with them. They continue to feel like they haven't just
lost a rock icon, but that they have lost a close friend.
Here's to you Eddie!"
