In Colby's words: I was born in Ruston, Louisiana. I never realized I had a good singing voice until I was 13 years old. My school had the eighth grade class perform a musical every year. Everyone had to try out and I won the lead role of Sky Masterson in 'Guys and Dolls.' Turns out, I was good, because I got a standing ovation for my solo in the show. Before that, I had only ever sang in the car to the radio.
I joined choir when I got to high school. Still not fully confident, but with the help of my teachers, I was able to extend my range and improve my tone to perform in several school musicals, performing roles like Marius from 'Les Miserables' and the Phantom from 'Phantom of the Opera.' During my high school years, I performed at Carnegie Hall three times, ACDA, LMEA, and gained superior ratings in District Solo and Ensemble Rally.
I decided to start making music when I was offered
a job at my local Country radio station. I was brought up
on Country music, so it wasn't difficult to listen to tons
of country music daily. A few months into my job at the
station, I started getting melodies stuck in my head. Realizing
I was making these up, I started writing original country
songs, and started performing them to my friends, family
and co-workers. With their support, I continued to write
and realized that what I wanted more than anything is to
sing country music. My influences are mainly singers from
the neo-traditionalist wave of the '80s and '90s including
George Strait, Reba, Alan Jackson, and my newer influences
like Aaron Watson and Cam.
