Christina's TRL Interview with Carson Daly
on 'Lady Marmalade'

christina and carson

Carson Daly: On the phone, our pal Christina Aguilera.....Christina. Hey, How ya doing? Bonjour.

Christina: (Laughs)

Carson Daly: How are you?

Christina: I'm pretty good.

Carson Daly: You sound like you just woke up.

Christina: Um, I kind of did. I'm jet-lagging because I just got back from Monaco yesterday.

Carson Daly: Wow. Business or pleasure in Monaco?

Christina: A little bit of both. I was there for the World Music Awards. It was a lot of fun. I got to perform with Ricky Martin again and then I took a little bit of a vacation kind of thing. Got a couple of days before I get back and work on my next album.

Carson Daly: Right, which we're gonna talk about in a second. And am I crazy or did I read you just bought a house in LA?

Christina: (Laughs) Actually you know what - I did buy a house, but the crazy thing is I'm selling it again.

Carson Daly: Really? Why? What went wrong? Was it like the money paid?

Christina: I don't know. I just went back and it was just....I don't....I just wasn't into it. I was like - you know what, I'm gonna put all this money into something, 'cause I still had some things to do to it - you know, the furnishings. I'm just not gonna be into, so I'm houselooking again, but I'm like in a little temporary house right now that I'm actually renting right now.

Carson Daly: What was it? Was it the LA area that you didn't like? Was it the neighbors? Were the bushes not high enough around the perimeter? What was the problem?

Christina: No, actually...I - um - I liked the area and everything. It was just actually the house. I was kind of - it was kind of a dumb thing for me to do. If I didn't like love-love it, but I just wanted so bad to have a place finally in LA, rather than going form hotel to hotel.

Carson Daly: Yes, yes... I'm sure you'll find the perfect house.

Christina: Thanks.

Carson Daly: You've been asked about ten thousand times about working with these girls for 'Lady Marmalade.' It seems appropriate now, because ah....the CD just came out...

Christina: Yes.

Carson Daly: The song is like - all over the radio. Um, is there anything that you can offer up to us here at TRL about that experience working with Mya and Lil' Kim. We had Missy Elliott on the other day singing your praises.

Christina: Oh really! I love her, you know what, the girls were like....I have to say that was one of the funnest, funnest projects I have musically ever done, just 'cause it was so....they were such kick-ass girls like they were - Mya, Pink .... Lil' Kim - it was so funny 'cause she comes off so like hardcore in her videos, and she's like the sweetest person. It's crazy. We had such a great time, honestly. We had a great time in the studio and on the set, and you know, it was like playing dress-up, it was like a whole fun project.

Carson Daly: Oh yeah, I like to play the dress up, um....Christina, I would just imagine - we have to go here in a second - they're wrapping me up - we're being chatty....um - your fellow artists here on TRL in the pop world usually are pretty quick to put out a record, about every year. You, I can imagine, since you have such a longevity - you're not going anywhere - is that sort of the idea - of why you're not in a rush to do anything?

Christina: Thank you. I appreciate that. Actually you see these artists there like 'record record record,' and that's cool for them. But I'm - um - more interested in taking more time and kind of writing myself and getting my own kind of thing going. So I really wanna... it's more about quality than quantity of records I put out. And i really want the quality of this one to really shine through.

Carson Daly: And I like your voice with the beats. Maybe you could work that into the studio. That would be great.

Christina: (Laughs) With what?

Carson Daly: With the beats!

Christina: Oh thanks!

Carson Daly: I like the little hip hop lean.

Christina: Thank you.

Carson Daly: Christina Aguilera - always a pleasure. Safe travels - thanks for hanging out.

Christina: Thank you, thank you.

Carson Daly: 'Lady Marmalade' on TRL. Enjoy the ladies playing dress up - I know I do!

Christina: (Laughs)
