Brian Zilm is a central Illinois-based singer-songwriter releasing his first solo album, 'Ferdinand,' in spring 2015. The album was recorded in Springfield, Illinois at Frequincy Studios with Quincy Watson serving as engineer, and mixed in New Orleans, Louisiana with Tom Drummond of the rock group Better Than Ezra mixing the record and adding string arrangements.

The ups and downs of life at the end of a relationship and the loss of loved ones began shaping the sound of Zilm's songwriting as he grew older. 'Ferdinand' also reflects a lot of what was going on in the lives of friends. "Somewhere to Fall Apart" is a about a friend who lost her mother to cancer. "On Your Way" is about a conversation not had with someone who was losing her dad to cancer. "Walls" is about a friend going through depression.

Zilm began testing his songs at coffeehouses and open mic nights across central Illinois, and a general consensus formed that Zilm needed to make a proper record. With more than 20 songs in tow, Zilm received an overwhelming response to a Kickstarter campaign. He then met with Watson, who was open to the idea of recording the record together. The two were immediately on the same page and with the help of Drummond, 'Ferdinand' came to life in July of 2015.
